Two children and an adult were beaten by a driver outside a preschool in a southern Carolina church in what could have been an intentional act, authorities said.

Police are looking for the suspect after the accident in the Presbyterian Church Sunrise on the island of Sullivan, a beach city on the outskirts of Charleston, according to the sergeant of the Isle of Palms Police. Matt Storen.

A child and an adult were taken to the hospitals and the third victim was treated at the scene and released, police said. Since then, the child taken to the hospital has been discharged, according to a spokesman from the University of Medicine of South Carolina.

The suspect left his sedan after the accident and is believed to be on foot and armed with a knife, said Storen.

There was no altercation before the incident, according to Storen.

An active human hunt is ongoing, with drones in the sky and the control points at the entrance to the island of Sullivan, said Storen.

“The officers will conduct grid searches in the area,” said the police department on social networks. “The suspect is a white man seen for the last time with a red shirt and shorts. Please report any sighting calling 911 immediately.”
