Democratic Mayor of New York City: Mamdani declares the victory, Cuomo recognizes before the classified election votes are counted

In the primary democratic mayor of New York City, no candidate reached the 50% threshold that the winner should declare directly. But after a strong performance in the first round, state assemblyman Zohran Mamdani declared the victory over former governor Andrew Cuomo, who previously admitted, in what was drilling to be a remarkable discomfort.
The New York City Board reported from 10:30 pm on Tuesday that Mamdani led among the candidates that voters occupied the first place in their electoral ballot, with 44% of the votes. Cuomo was second with approximately 36%. The city computers, Brad Lander, continued with approximately 11%.

The first results amounted to a great performance for Mamdani, a member of the Democratic Socialists of America, who had gained impulse in the surveys and the collection of funds in the final weeks of the campaign and took advantage of the virality of social networks and the enthusiasm among the younger voters.
In a passionate speech for followers shortly after midnight, Mamdani declared: “Tonight, we made history,” adding: “I will be his Democratic candidate for the mayor of New York City.”
For their party cheers, Mamdani said: “We have won because New Yorkers have defended a city they can pay, a city where they can do more than fight, one in which those who work at night can enjoy the fruits of their work in the day.”

Cuomo went to his followers on Tuesday earlier.
“Tonight was not our night; tonight was the night of the assemblyman Mamdani, and organized a great campaign and touched the young people and inspired them and transferred them and made them come out and voted,” Cuomo said in an event on Tuesday night. He added: “Tonight is his night. He deserved it. He won. We are going to take a look and make some decisions.”

Shortly after his comments, in a surprise announcement, Cuomo’s campaign said he was admitting primary and “looking towards November”, indicating that he was not ruling out an independent career.
At the beginning of this spring, Cuomo’s campaign said he would consider running in a vote of “fighting and delivering” in the general elections that, according to him, is intended for the voters disappointed with the Democratic Party.
Cuomo’s career for the mayor was to mark his political return almost four years after giving up the Government after several women accused him of sexual harassment and inappropriate behavior. Cuomo has constantly denied accusations.
In the mayor’s career, Cuomo has campaigned in a message of being the most experienced in the race and being the candidate who has already faced President Donald Trump during his time as governor. Mamdani has focused on a progressive platform centered on the economy that included a rental freezing for stabilized apartments with rent and eliminating rates for the buses of New York City.
Mamdani, who would be the first Muslim mayor of the city and his younger mayor in a century if he was chosen, confronted skepticism about the viability of some of his proposals and reaction about some of his comments on Israel.
Even with Cuomo’s announcement, the race is scheduled to proceed with a classified election count since no 11th candidate on the electoral ballot obtained more than 50%.
Tuesday’s results still do not reflect any tabulation of classified option. The most complete results will not be informed until July 1, when the Elections Board plans to execute the classified choice tabs. According to the city’s classified election vote system, if no candidate breaks 50%, the candidate is eliminated with the least number of votes, and the vote tabulation continues in the rounds. In the second round, the voters whose first election candidate was eliminated obtains his vote of second election. That continues to work until only two candidates are left, and the candidate for the head at that time wins primary school.
A spokesman for the city’s election board, Vincent Ignizio, told ABC News that the waiting for a week of waiting to obtain comprehensive results is due, in part, while recovering the data of the voting machine.
The Elections Board plans to finish voting over the next weeks and certify the results on July 15.
Almost 1 million New Yorkers voted early or Primary Day, according to the Board.
During the primaries of Mayor Democrats of 2021, which was the first time that New York City used the classified election vote, a total of 942,031 votes were issued in the City Hall race, according to data from the Board of Elections Elections of New York City.
In New York very democratic, it is likely that the Democratic Primary Winner in the City Hall race has the advantage in the general elections in November.
However, what can complicate things is the fact that Democratic Mayor Eric Adams is postulated as an independent in autumn.
