The Maui County Fire Department said in an update on X that the fire “is being slowly contained.”
The authorities asked motorists to avoid the area. “The smoke continues to affect the road, which requires the continuous closure of the road,” said the department.
The fire is just a couple of miles north from where the devastating forest fires of Lahaina occurred almost two years ago.
The fires, which became the fifth deadliest in the history of the United States, left more than 100 dead people, destroyed thousands of structures and marked the local landscape.
