California will advance with the districts redistribution vote to counteract Texas, says Newsom

The governor of California, Gavin Newsom, announced Thursday that he is advancing with the presentation of the new Maps of Congress proposed for the State on the electoral ballot in a special election of November 4 in an attempt to counteract the redistribution of districts in the middle of the decade that the Republicans in Texas were pushed in Texas.
“I know they say ‘Do not mess with Texas’. Well, do not mess with the great state of gold,” Newsom said at a press conference, flanked by Democratic members of Congress and the union leaders of California.
“We are doing this in reaction to a United president who called a governor sitting from the state of Texas and said: ‘Find me five seats,” he added later.
He said that the State Government will affirm its commitment to the State Independent Redistrites Commission after the 2030 Census, “but we are asking voters that their consent makes redistribution of mid -period districts in 2026, 2028 and 2030 so that the Maps of the Congress respond to what is happening in Texas … and we will do it in a way that also affirms our desire as a state at the whole level of the United States of the United States.

In a campaign video published simultaneously with the press conference, Newsom framed the topic in marked terms.
“It is a five alarms fire for democracy in the United States of America. Donald Trump, who is trying to light a torch in democracy, continues to try to manipulate the elections,” says Newsom in the video.
The California Legislature will have to approve the legislation to put the maps on the ballot.
Speaking to journalists after the announcement, Newsom said that California will not advance with their redistribution plans in the middle of the decade if the states administered by the Republicans who consider the redistribution of districts do not advance when they draw their own maps again.
“This does not advance, I want to remind everyone, unless one of these other states progresses, there is still an exit ramp, not only Texas, but also Missouri, as I mentioned, or Florida, Indiana, these other states that are considering doing the unprecedented, manipulating their elections with redistribution of half of the state. Therefore, we are expected.
Republicans criticize Newsom’s movement as a politician.
“The last trick of Gavin Newsom has nothing to do with the Californians and everything to do with consolidating the radical Democratic power, silencing California voters and underpinning their pathetic impossible dream dream,” said Christian Martinez, spokesman for the Republican National Committee, Christian Martinez, in a statement before the press conference.
“Newsom made it clear: it will destroy the constitution of California and trample democracy, directing a book of cynical and selfish play where Californians are a late occurrence and power is the only priority.”
