DC leaders reject Trump’s ‘public security emergency’ before the Supervision Committee

Washington, the main elected leaders of DC, warned Thursday that the federal increase in President Donald Trump’s law has undermined public trust and threatened the autonomy of the city, even when they pressed Congress to help the district rebuild their police force and fill critical judicial vacancies.
Mayor Muriel Bowser, the president of the Council, Phil Mendelson, and Attorney General Brian Schwalb told the Chamber’s Supervision Committee that, although crime rates have fallen to minimum of 30 years, the city still needs federal long -term support, not patrols of the Armed National Guard. The three leaders urged Congress to finance new facilities, confirm the judges and support efforts to restore the ranks of the Metropolitan Police Department to almost 4,000 officers.
Both Mendelson and Schwalb criticized the effectiveness and legality of the federal increase.
“As the capital of the nation, public security in the district has always required a solid labor association with the application of federal law, regardless of who is in the White House,” said Schwalb. “Declarations of federal emergency and unilateral actions, taken without coordination or anticipated warning, do not promote long -term public security.”

“Send masked agents in unmarked cars to pick up people out of the streets; flooding our neighborhoods with armed national guards who are not trained in local surveillance; trying a federal acquisition of our police force, none of them are lasting and lasting solutions to reduce crime,” added the attorney general of DC. “In fact, this threatens to destroy critical confidence between local communities and the police, which is essential for effective and efficient surveillance and prosecution.”
Mendelson described the emergency declaration “a crime of the crime manufactured to justify an intrusion in the autonomy of the district.”
At a time when violent crime is at the lowest rate we have seen in 30 years, there is no federal emergency that the district needs the president to address, “he said, adding that the National Guard troops lack training on the law and have been” collecting garbage and making landscape. “
Schwalb also retreated against the statements that minors’s criminals are not being prosecuted. He said his office presented charges in 84% of all violent youth cases last year, which included more than 90% of homicides, 87% of car theft and 86% of weapons cases.

The three officials urged Congress to help address long -standing vacancies in the DC courts and to finance a new psychiatric residential treatment center for young people.
By marking the next 250 anniversary of the United States, Bowser said: “We have a unique opportunity in life so that the capital of the nation is the safest and most beautiful that has been at any time in its history, not only for our residents, but for the millions of Americans who will come to Washington, DC, to celebrate the inheritance of our country.”
The president of supervision of the House of Representatives, the representative of James Eat, used the audience to promote the increase of Trump, while the representative of classification classification Robert García responded when trying to link Trump with the corruption and unpublished archives of Jeffrey Epstein during his initial comments.
“A week has passed since the conclusion of the historical repression of the crime of President Trump in the capital of our nation, and the results are in: Since President Trump mobilized the National Guard and took control of the Metropolitan Police Department, the violent crime has decreased 39% of the robberies has dropped 57% and the theft of cars have dropped 75% more than 2,300 people have been arrested.” The victim said. “Almost 950 illegal foreigners have been arrested for ICE, including 20 gangs of violent terrorist organizations.”
“Sex criminals have been taken from the streets. The authorities frustrated a shooting at planned school, eliminated 50 camps of illegal tents and rescued seven missing children,” he said.
Garcia, however, abruptly criticized Trump’s role.
“President Trump is obsessed with trying to direct Washington, DC, and if President Trump wants to direct Washington DC, he should resign as president and run for mayor.”
“We should, of course, we all spend our time working with local elected officials. And Congress should not be undermining the elected representatives and the people of Washington, DC, and if most today they want to talk about the crime in DC, in the district, we are happy to talk about the crime in DC, we know that some of the worst crimes and corruption in DC are found in 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue, they say.
Garcia then mentioned Trump’s forgives for insurrectionists on January 6 and Epstein archives.
“In his early days in office, Donald Trump forgave hundreds of his followers who beat, touched and attacked Capitol Police Brave DC and the United States. And at this time, since we are talking about crime and corruption in DC while we talked, Trump leads a cover of the White House of Epstein’s archives,” Garcia said.
