Foreign adversaries, the private sector, state governments can enter to recruit federal workers, experts say.

Thousands of federal workers throughout the country have been forced to abandon their jobs by the Trump administration, since the Elon Musk government efficiency department says it aims to improve the government and reduce waste.
From Park Rangers and social workers of the Department of Veterans Affairs to scientists and foreign relations experts, workers have decades of experience and knowledge that are crucial for their fields.
With that large amount of knowledge and experience, experts in labor and security told ABC News that federal federal workers are being recruited by private companies and foreign governments, which, they said, increases the risk of security threats against the United States.

“From a perspective of intelligence and application of the law, the potential of foreign intelligence forces to recruit government workers is heat,” said John Cohen, an ABC taxpayer and former interim undersecretary of intelligence in the Department of National Security.
At the same time, state and local governments could take a step forward to complete their offices with that talent, since President Donald Trump seeks to change many roles and responsibilities of the federal government.
“It would be an easy transition for them and, in the end, it would benefit the public, which needs their experience now,” said ABC News, a professor of labor studies at the work center at the University of California, Los Angeles.
Mature workers for private sector selection
Narro, who has worked at the Boards and Public Commissions of the City of Los Angeles and in an American agency project for the international development project, said that one of the most important things that are overlooked in the massive shots of Dege is the fact that many of these employees had a strong training of the best universities and chose to have a career in a public office instead of the private sector.
“Many public sector employees renounce jobs in the private sector because they care to be a public worker,” he said. “Everyone knows that they could have earned much more money and have more benefits.”

What federal workers can lack salary, can compensate for connections with political leaders and organizations, as well as access to government data and knowledge. It is common for federal workers who leave the public sector to take that knowledge to private sector work, such as consulting companies that specialize in the environment, national security and medical care, Cohen said.
The unprecedented mass dismissal of federal workers can lead to the creation of new private sector organizations composed of these workers, Cohen said.
“It would be difficult to think that those employees would not be in demand,” he said.
In fact, billionaire Mark Cuban released an idea in a mail On March 1, those dismissed workers joined and begin their own consulting company.
“It’s just a matter of time before Doge needs to fix the disaster they inevitably created. They will have to hire their company as a contractor to fix it. But in their terms. I am happy to invest and/or help,” wrote the host of Shark Tank.
There have been no public updates on Cuban’s proposal since the publication as of March 18.
The foreign national threat increased
Cohen said that Cuban’s proposal has some merit, but warned that not all who offer a friendly hand will have altruistic intentions.
In fact, he warned that offers could be disturbances designed by foreign adversaries.
Cohen said that counterintelligence operations throughout history have attacked unhappy federal employees that are desperate and without the way to pay their expenses and debts.
Each fired worker, from those in the Social Security administration, who have knowledge about the United States benefits system, to nuclear engineers, could be a perfect asset for intelligence agencies in Russia, China and other nations, Cohen said.
In addition, general knowledge about the internal functioning of federal offices, the personalities of senior officials and other information could be attractive to the adversaries, he said.
“It’s not just the valuable classified information,” he said.

Cohen said that Trump’s contempt and Musk of federal workers such as vague, inefficient and not useful for the government will help to make it easier for foreign recruiters to present their case.
“It is a standard recruitment tool. Find that feeling of complaint, cover the flames and get cooperate because they are angry with what they were done,” he said.
Those same operations have also found success through more gloomy tactics, Cohen said.
He pointed out that there have been cases in which federal employees have worked without knowing it for foreign governments that pass through private companies in the United States or have been working closely with legitimate companies that already operate in the United States, cloudying evidence of foreign intervention.
“It could be something as simple as offering someone to write a research job and pay a lot for it or pronounce a speech at a conference,” Cohen said. “From there, I could lead to something in the long term.”

The governor of Massachusetts, Maura Healey, told journalists in the news conferences this week that this is being developed in her state, saying Wednesday: “What has happened is that it has other governments, from China, of the Middle East, from all over the world, arriving in this country, reaching the campus in Massachusetts and basically say:” Hello, the federal government will take the federal government. country. We are going to give it a laboratory. Give it a laboratory. Give it a job. A staff.
“That is not putting the United States first,” he added.
In general, the federal government encourages workers to make their due diligence and refrain from working with anyone who seems to have foreign government ties, but Cohen said it will be difficult self-political on such a massive scale.
“The Government has to trust someone’s patriotism and their sense of ethics so as not to voluntarily support a foreign intelligence service. But very often, a person may not know that he is being recruited,” he said.
State local governments to the rescue?
However, recruitment efforts are not limited to foreign entities and private companies. State and local governments now seek to occupy their offices with displaced talent.
Earlier this month, New York governor Kathy Hochul, announced the “You Hired” campaign, which encourages federal workers fired to go to New York and request jobs in several state agencies. The State placed advertisements in Union Station that redirected them to a website with state work offers.
“We are looking for candidates with experience and experience in a wide variety of fields. I need technologists, I need engineers, I need lawyers, health workers, educators, public policy experts and many more,” Hochul told journalists at a press conference on March 3.

“I am in competition for the best lawyers, the best engineers [and] People to work in the Financial Services Department, “he added.” In a place like New York City, there are many more paid works. Therefore, these are special people who move away from those works and opportunities and come here, and I want to let them know that we will take care of them. “
As of March 18, more than 200 people have registered in web seminars organized by the New York State Labor Department, according to the Governor’s Office.
The governor of Maryland, Wes Moore, Democrat, and the governor of Virginia Glenn Youngkin, Republican, have started similar campaigns.
Narro said it is not surprising that local governments take the opportunity to occupy their offices, since many are now preparing for additional responsibilities after Dux cuts.
At the same time, there is no guarantee that these local governments can pick up all those workers, he said.
“Much depends on the State. You have a better opportunity to get public work in New York versus Iowa due to the number of offices, departments and, ultimately, the budget,” said Narro.

Cohen and Narro added that Trump’s promise to give more power to the United States, particularly education, but there are no details about how they would obtain financing to do so has also left many states in Limbo when it comes to recruitment.
“It is great that the states occur to these programs, but if they cannot commit, it will have more frustrated federal workers,” Cohen said.
Can you undo the damage?
Narro pointed out that the situation with federal federal workers remains fluid as judicial cases develop and some of the shots have been arrested or reversed.
However, uncertainty alone could be devastating with the future of the Federal Labor Force.

“People’s families depend on stability, and if they cannot keep up with changing decisions, they can quit smoking completely,” said Narro. “I suspect that this is what Trump and Musk are looking to do in their strategy.”
Narro said that even if Trump and Musk’s policies are reversed by future administration, there could be long -term damage.
“At the end of the day, the public loses more,” he said. “It will be more difficult for anyone to give up a private work and dedicate their talents to serve the public if they will be treated.”
