The Secretary of State, Marco Rubio, briefly discussed the summit preparations during an unrelated event in the State Department on Thursday.

“They go very fast because this met very quickly, and is in Alaska, so we have to get there,” said Rubio. “We will see how tomorrow develops. As the president said, his hope is to interact with Mr. Putin tomorrow and make sense very fast and early, whether possible or not.”

“We hope it will be,” he added.

The secretary also talked about the conditions they would need to fulfill to achieve lasting peace.

“I think we all recognize that there will have to be a conversation about security guarantees. There will have to be a conversation about, you know, territorial disputes and statements and what they are fighting,” said Rubio. “But I think that the president’s hope is to achieve a struggle stop so that these conversations can happen.”

As the fight is ongoing, he said that a high fire is “critical.”

“We want there to be a peace, we are going to do everything possible to achieve one, but ultimately, it will depend on Ukraine and Russia according to one,” said Rubio.
