A man accused of intentionally plowing his car through a crowd in Los Angeles during the weekend has been accused of 37 positions of murder attempt, authorities announced on Tuesday.
The suspect, Fernando Ramírez, 29, has also been accused of 37 assault charges with a mortal weapon, “the mortal weapon is the car,” said the District prosecutor of Los Angeles County, Nathan Hochman, during an informative press session that announces the presentation of the charges.
The counts correspond to the 37 victims in the incident, which took place around 2 in the morning, local time, on Saturday outside the place of music, the Vermont in East Hollywood, said Hochman.
Among the victims, eight suffered “great bodily injuries,” such as serious fractures and lacerations, said the district prosecutor.

“We understand that this shameless act has shaken the community,” Hochman said during the newspaper of the press. “As he alleged, and we will demonstrate it in a court of justice, when he led that car to that sidewalk, he pointed to an integer of pedestrians who were in front of him on the sidewalk at 2 in the morning, many of them were in the Taco truck, or were waiting in the valet, or they were waiting to enter the club.”
During the weekend, higher researchers told ABC News that the accident occurred after the suspect had been removed from the nightclub. Then he intentionally led his vehicle to an sidewalk and towards the crowd he gathered outside the club, police said.
During Tuesday’s informative session, the Interim Chief of Firefighters of the Los Angeles Fire Department, Ronnie Villanueva, described the scene as “incredibly chaotic and distressing.”
“It is really a miracle that nobody was killed,” said the head of the Los Angeles Police Department Jim McDonnell.
When the vehicle was disabled, the spectators of the crowd dragged the driver outside the car and began to attack him physically, according to the police. At some point during the altercation, the police said a man shot the driver once in the lower back fled the scene on foot.
After being treated in a hospital, Ramírez was initially imprisoned in suspicion of assault with a mortal weapon, police said. He is currently being held without bail and is scheduled to be prosecuted on Wednesday, said Hochman. If he is convicted as accused, the suspect faces multiple life sentences in state prison.

Ramírez has an “extensive history of violence,” McDonnell said. At the time of the incident, he was on bail in relation to a case of domestic violence of 2022 in Orange County, according to Hochman, who rejected more comments on the matter at this time.
The unidentified person who shot the driver remains in general, police said Tuesday.
“We understand the emotions involved, but when the threat was over and the suspect was no longer actively damaging others, the use of the mortal force was illegal and dangerous for everyone present,” McDonnell said. “Our detectives are working diligently to identify and apprehend the shooter.”
