“Doctors, hoping to register these initial improvements in the next few days, prudently maintain the prognosis that is still protected,” said the Vatican.

Francis was admitted to the Gemelli Hospital in Rome on February 14 and was diagnosed with bilateral pneumonia.

On early Sunday, the Pope launched the text of his direction of Angelus, or weekly direction, thanking the doctors and nurses who take care of him. He also prayed for many people around the world who are supporting a disease, according to the Vatican.

“During my prolonged hospitalization here,” said the Pope, “I also experience the consideration of the service and the tenderness of care, in particular of the doctors and health workers, whom I thank from the bottom of my heart.”
