Schumer moves to block Trump's nominees for 2 positions of New York Prosecutors

The leader of the majority, Chuck Schumer, announced Wednesday that he will use a Senate procedure that allows senators of the state of origin to object to the judicial nominees to try to block the elections of President Donald Trump for two prosecutors’ positions: the United States prosecutors for the southern and east districts of New York.

The Blue Slip Process, which has been honored by the Judicial Committee of the Senate, requests the signature of the senators in the state of origin before proceeding with nominations for the laws of the United States.

Schumer, a New York Democrat, refuses to return his blue receipt for Jay Clayton’s nominations to be the United States prosecutor for the Southern District of New York and Joseph Nocella Jr. to be the main prosecutor in the East District of New York.

“Donald Trump has made it clear that he has no loyalty in the law and intends to use the Department of Justice, the offices of the United States prosecutor and the application of the law as weapons to go after his perceived enemies,” Schumer said in a statement. “Such flagrant and depraved political motivations are deeply corrosive for the rule of law and leaves me deeply skeptical of Donald Trump’s intentions for these important positions. For that reason, I will not return the blue slippery for the nominees to the United States prosecutors for the southern and east districts of New York.”

This blue tradition in the Senate is just that: a tradition, not a law.

It depends on the president of the Chuck Grassley Judicial Committee if this blue slip process finally honors in this case.

“The Judicial Committee has long honored the traditional blue slip process for the nominees to the United States prosecutors,” a Grassley spokesman, a Iowa Republican, told ABC News, when they were contacted to comment on Schumer’s intention of not returning his blue receipt in the two lawyers of the United States of New York.

Grassley recently told the New York Times that he would honor the right of senators to reject the return of their blue slippers.

“The answer is yes,” said Grassley when asked if he would honor the blue sliding position of the senators. “If they are from the State, the nomination comes.”
