Several New York officials arrested in protest at the Manhattan Ice office

Several elected officials in New York were arrested Thursday during a protest in an immigration office in Manhattan, according to local media reports and the National Security Department.

Among those arrested in 26 Federal Plaza, a government building that houses an immigration and customs control office, was the Comptroller of New York City Brad Lander, which was arrested in the same place in June, while accompanying people to visits to the immigration courts.

In a statement, DHS confirmed that a total of 71 people were arrested during the protest on Thursday, including Lander, two senators of the New York State and nine members of the New York State Assembly.

The New York Wabc ABC station reported that Lander and the other elected officials who were arrested would receive police citations and then be released.

After the arrests on Thursday, the building was later placed in a blockade due to a bomb threat, DHS said.

The installation of 26 Federal Plaza has been the scene of numerous protests in recent months in the midst of the repression of immigration of the Trump administration.

Lander was arrested during a protest in June after being accused of assaulting an agent of the law. Lander denied the accusation and said he was not accused after the incident.

Earlier this week, a federal judge ordered the Trump administration to improve the conditions for migrants arrested in the holding installation inside the building.
