The 28 -year -old golfer dies after being beaten by lightning while playing in the New Jersey course

Simon John Mariani, 28, played in the Ballyowen golf course in Hamburg on July 8 when he was hit by lightning in Hole 15, authorities said. Mariani “unexpectedly” died on Monday, according to a obituary The family was launched on the website of the funeral management arrangements.

The Hardyston Police Department said he received a 911 call at approximately 1:53 pm that day, and once on the scene “they gave attention to the victim until the paramedics arrived.”

Mariani was taken to the hospital by Medevac to receive additional treatment, authorities said last week.

The 28 -year -old worked as an associate at MTS Health Partners in New York City and was described as “Dedicated, Intelligent” and “Exceptionally talented”, reads in his obituary.

“He hugged all the things in the family,” he loved Taylor Swift and had the “heart of a champion,” according to his obituary. Mariani survives his parents, two sisters and “many family and friends appreciated who will always keep their memory near their hearts,” said the obituary.

Funeral services for Mariani are scheduled for Friday, according to the obituary.
