The main private prison companies see profits in the midst of the repression of administration immigration

The largest private prison companies report significant profits in the midst of an aggressive impulse by the Trump administration to increase arrests and immigration arrests.
During the earnings calls last week, the executives of the Geo Group and Corecivic companies announced an increase in the income of new and current contracts with the application of immigration and customs, and discussed their plans to expand their businesses to meet the demands of the administration.
“Our business is perfectly aligned with the demands of this moment,” said the CEO of Corecivic, Damon Hininger. “We are in an unprecedented environment with rapid increases in federal detention populations throughout the country and a continuous need for solutions.”
Corecivic reported a total income of $ 538.2 million during its second quarter, an increase of 9.8% from the same quarter in 2024.
During the call, Hininger told investors that the company is evaluating additional opportunities for expansion and said that the coordinates are “the most human, more efficient logistically, have the highest audit compliance scores in their system. [and] weatherproof.”
Hininger said that, although ICE has recently been using “soft face solutions” such as tents facilities in Guantanamo Bay and in the detention center “Aligator Aligator Alcatraz” by Florida, he believes that the agency “does not see the facilities of the soft face as long -term solutions.”
“In the days elapsed since the elections, the message has been quite clear for the administration, the leadership of the DHS and the leadership of ICE that the detention will be the priority,” said Hininger, and added that the company has been “working throughout the day” to open space in bed and new detention facilities.

Geo Group, the largest ICE contractor, reported total income of the second quarter of $ 636.2 million, an increase of 5% since the second quarter of 2024.
During his earning call last week, the president of Geo Group, George Zoley, said that the use of his current ice contracts increased from 15,000 beds to 20,000 beds, which Zoley said it is the highest level of ice use in the history of the company.
“All these efforts are destined to place our company in the best possible competitive position to pursue what we continue to believe are unprecedented growth opportunities such as a long -standing support service provider for ICE,” Zoley said.
“We believe we are uniquely positioned to help the agency meet their goals,” said Zoley.
The CEO of the GEO group told investors that “given the size” of the undocumented immigrant population in the United States, the company’s opinion is that, in addition to a greater capacity for detention, the “application of federal immigration laws” could lead to an increase in the monitoring of GPS for people.
The company, which has hired ICE for more than 20 years to manage the agency’s electronic monitoring program, currently tracks approximately 183,000 people, Zoley said. The monitoring program is directed by Bi Inc., a subsidiary of Geo Group.
“Once the detention capacity is maximized by the end of the year, we speculate that the approach will probably change to increase the use of GPS monitoring,” Zoley said. “We believe that we have taken the necessary resources to respond significantly and quickly to the eventual expansion of [the] Intensive Supervision and Appearance Program (ISAP) “.
For years, ICE has trusted private companies to house detained migrants, which makes it a billionaire business.
As ABC News previously reported, Geo Group and Corecivic, both whose leadership have long supported Trump, saw the prices of their actions immediately after Trump’s victory in the November elections.
