New York Governor Kathy Hochul, in an appearance in CNN on Monday morning, said the recent comments of President Trump that children could “have two wrists instead of 30 wrists” as a result of tariffs in China and a commercial war program that “does not care”.

“It’s very condescending,” said Hochul. “Condescending at many levels. But as a mother who has bought dolls for my girl and granddaughter, I mean, come on, the president of the United States tells you that, oh, you don’t need that. This is a millionaire, maybe a billionaire who really knows what her records show, but has much more money than the average American.”

Trump made the comments when answering questions at the end of his cabinet meeting at the end of last month, seeming to recognize the real impacts that his commercial war with China could have on Americans.

“It shows a disconnection with the people who voted for him in office, many of them, who doesn’t care,” said Hochul. “Families don’t care … and I think they are starting to listen to this and feel this, and feel they have been betrayed. And that is a very overwhelming sensation throughout the state of New York.”
